DMU Resource Lists for Staff (previous): Adding other items

Bookmarking other items

You should be able to bookmark most of resources that you find online using the 'Add to my bookmarks' button. You may want to check that the data has been entered correctly e.g. author, title etc... You will also need to check that the 'resource type' is the correct one e.g a document, proceedings,  etc...

Bookmarking from websites

  • Find the website you want to bookmark
  • Click on the  button on your browser
  • At the bottom of the page on the next screen, click on  if you want to add the book to a list later or  if you already have a list

Bookmarking PDFs

  • If you can, try to avoid bookmarking from a PDF as the system has trouble picking up the information it needs from a PDF. If you are bookmarking a journal article it is usually possible to bookmark the page from which you get the link to the PDF.
  • If this is not possible, bookmark from the PDF page but note that you will need to enter the details about the page, including author, title etc.

Bookmarking conference proceedings

  • Find your conference proceedings and use the  button to bookmark it
  • On the next screen, in the 'Resource type' field at the top of the screen, change the resource type from 'Book' to  'Proceedings' using the drop down menu.
  • Check that the rest of the information is correct and add to your list as usual

Bookmarking Cases and Legislation

If possible bookmark from Lexis Library rather than Westlaw UK as the metadata is imported more accurately and Library staff will only need to make minimal changes to the URL.

  • Find the Case on Lexis Library and go to the page from which the judgment is available (if the case is available from the English Reports go to the page from which users can click on the PDF (not the PDF itself)).
  • Find the Legislation you want to bookmark on Lexis Library and go to the page from which it is available (but do not click on the link to the PDF itself). Note that you can also bookmark from legislation.gov.uk, but that the legislation will not necessarily be up to date. Furthermore, you will not be able to bookmark a particular section of an Act as you can if you use Lexis Library.

Bookmarking from Box of Broadcasts (BoB)

  • Find your programme on BoB and go to the page from which you can view the programme
  • Click on the  button on your browser
  • At the bottom of the page on the next screen, click on  if you want to add the book to a list later or  if you already have a list

Bookmarking British Standards

  • Log in to British Standards Online (BSOnline)
  • Find your British Standard and go to the page from which you can download the PDF
  • Click on the  button on your browser
  • In the 'Resource type' field at the top of the screen, change the resource type from 'Book' to  'Document' using the drop down menu.
  • Check that the rest of the information is correct and add to your list as usual

Bookmarking a Panopto presentation/podcast

  • Login to Panopto and navigate to the presentation you want to upload
  • Click on the 'Share' icon underneath details of the presentation you want to bookmark:
  • On the following screen select 'Outputs' on the left hand side:
  • From the Outputs page, you can choose the format of the presentation that you want to make available to students:
  • If you want students to see the presentation in Panopto Web viewer (whereby you can see the TOC on the left and all the slides at the bottom), click on 'View session' to open the presentation on another tab
  • If you prefer students to have access the video podcast only, click on 'View Podcast' underneath to open the video podcast on another tab
  • If you want students to have access to the audio file, click on 'Play MP3 Audio'
  • Once you have selected the format you want to share with students, go to the tab on which it is open and bookmark the page by clicking on the  'Add to my bookmarks' button on your browser.
  • Add a title to the presentation (as this won't be imported) and save the bookmark as usual.
