Open Access: Deposit your research

About DORA

DORA logoDORA (De Montfort Open Research Archive) is the University's institutional publications repository. It enables publications to be made available through the Green Open Access route. It also includes the metadata (description) of non Open Access research outputs, so that individuals and groups both within and outside the University can view information about the University's research outputs.

Working with third parties

If you are working with a research partner, or including material for which someone else owns copyright (e.g. images), you will need to check that they agree to making the research outputs Open Access.

  • Does your research partner have their own Open Access policy?
  • Who will be responsible for paying any APCs?
  • Are you including any material that others own the copyright for?

Checking publishers' Open Access policies

If funding isn't available to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) through the Gold open access route, many publishers will allow an author's accepted manuscript version (i.e. final peer-reviewed version) to be deposited to a repository such as DORA.  However, each journal will have its own conditions that you must check carefully. Some tools that can help you include:

  • Sherpa Romeo: Search by journal title, International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) or publisher to find Green Open Access conditions.
  • Sherpa/Fact: Check if a journal in which you wish to publish complies with funders' requirements for Open Access.
  • Sherpa Juliet: Find general details of funders' Open Access policies.

Please contact if you require help understanding open access conditions.
