Dance: Special Collections

Material relating to Dance in Special Collections

DMU Special Collections comprises the Archives and Rare Books collections. We are based in Kimberlin 00.21, on the lower ground floor near the Journals. We are usually open Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. Contact us at archives@dmu.ac.uk with any queries or see our LibGuide here

Special Collections has various resources which may be of interest to a student of Dance. Most significant are the archives of People Dancing, formerly the Foundation for Community Dance (see here for a catalogue), a national development agency and lead body for community dance, providing support, training and information to community dance practitioners.

Other Archives sources include the papers of Dance teacher Mike Huxley, and general records which illuminate the history of dance teaching at DMU and its predecessors, for example photographs and recordings of student performances.

In Rare Books, the Art, Design and Architecture collection includes the Dance Index and Dance and Dancers. In the Library catalogue narrow a search by Library Location 'Kimberlin Special Collections' to view Rare Books holdings.
