CLaSS tutorials are short tutorials with a lecturer who specialises in writing and study skills strategies.
Tutorials can be arranged:
-
for students on any year of their study.
-
for individuals (30 minutes).
-
for a small group (maximum 1 hour).
Lecturers are happy to discuss any aspect of study and writing with practical strategies to progress with your university or professional development. Topics include, but are not limited to:
-
Planning your essay
-
Structuring a report
-
Organising your time
-
Writing in an appropriate academic style
-
Being critical
Each tutorial is only 30 minutes long (maximum of 1 hour for a group tutorial), so it is important that you come along prepared.
Before attending a tutorial you should:
-
think about the topic of study or writing that you wish to discuss
-
bring your notes or first draft of an assignment
-
bring your assignment brief, if the topic is related to an assignment
You might also wish to bring:
-
an essay plan
-
a later draft or nearly complete assignment, if in the later stages of writing
-
written feedback from previous assignments
We cannot:
-
Proofread your work. However, we can offer resources and strategies to help you develop your own proofreading.
-
Help you with the subject content of your assignment, but we may ask you to explain the assignment and describe your ideas.

Tutorials are offered every week day in the Kimberlin Library.
However, they often book up quickly so forward planning is essential. It is unusual to get a tutorial booking less than 1 week in advance.
It is important that you arrive a few minutes before the start time of your tutorial. On the day and time of your appointment you will need to report to the staff on reception at the Kimberlin Library who will guide you to the room for your tutorial.
