Useful shelfmarks

Books about the same subject are assigned the same number. You'll find the number on the spine of each book; we call this the shelfmark. Here is a selection of shelfmarks for English language learning:

Online dictionaries

Provides the opportunity to check how scientific words are used in context.

English Language at DMU

Once you have started your full-time course you are entitled to free English language support (two hours per week for undergraduate and research students and three hours per week for postgraduate students) from the Centre for English Language and Learning at DMU.

Proof Reading

What is proof reading?

Proof reading refers to checking your work for grammar, spelling and punctuation errors.It is an important step of your assignment writing process.

Proof reading at DMU

De Montfort University strongly advises against the use of professional proof reading services, or proof reading by third parties (such as friends or relatives). This is because proof reading is an integral part of your writing process and you should take responsibility for it.

Support to develop your Proof Reading skills

 1.CELL (Centre for English Language Learning) provides free English classes to all international students. Please make sure you contact CELL to sign up for your class.

 2.The Centre for Learning and Study Skills has developed:

-an online Proof Reading for Grammar Toolkit

- a series of Proof Reading for Grammar workshops available throughout the academic year

-specific advice can be also provided through one-to-one tutorials and drop-ins
