current information as journals are published quicker than books.

Journal Article Databases

Databases are useful resources to search for good quality subject-specific research, and to find journal articles on a topic. Here are some useful Architecture, Art and Design databases. Most of these will be covered by Library Search, but you may find the results on these databases to be more specific to your subject field. Unless otherwise specified, you will need your Single Sign On username and password (the same as for MyDMU and email) to access them within and outside the university.

Academic Search This link opens in a new window
EBSCO's Academic Search database provides full text for more than 4,600 journals, including full text for nearly 3,900 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.
Architects Journal and AJ Building Library This link opens in a new window
The AJ supports architecture students by providing in-depth news analysis, insights into issues affecting the industry and building studies with technical details and drawings. The AJ Buildings Library is a digital database that showcases more than 1,900 exemplar projects, most from the last 20 years but including major projects back to 1900.

DMU students and staff have to register with their DMU email address via the AJ site to obtain access on and off campus. There is no automatic connection to the site on campus.

RIBA Library Catalogue This link opens in a new window
Catalogue of the collections of the RIBA Library, including articles that have been indexed in the Architectural Periodicals Index. The Architectural Periodicals Index (API) provides subject access to periodicals in all areas of architecture, the built environment, design, planning, construction and landscape.
Art and Architecture Archive This link opens in a new window
A full-text archive of magazines comprising key research material in the fields of art and architecture, dating from the late-nineteenth century to the twenty-first. Subjects covered include fine art, decorative arts, architecture, interior design, industrial design, and photography.
Art Full Text (H.W. Wilson) This link opens in a new window
Art Full Text is a comprehensive online resource for art information featuring full-text articles from more than 300 periodicals dating back to 1995, high-quality indexing and abstracting of over 600 periodicals dating as far back as 1984, including 280 peer-reviewed journals, as well as indexing and abstracting of over 13,000 art dissertations. Indexing of almost 200,000 art reproductions provides examples of styles and art movements, including works by emerging artists. The database covers fine, decorative and commercial art, folk art, photography, film, and architecture, and also includes a database-specific thesaurus.
ARTbibliographies Modern (ABM) This link opens in a new window
This online database is the only specialist bibliography available for the study of modern and contemporary art. Covers all art forms, including fine art, digital art, crafts, design and photography. Features full abstracts and indexing from art journals published from the late 1960s onwards. Also incorporates book records, including those drawn from the collections of the Tate Library and the Bibliothèque Dominique Bozo, Musée LAM.

This online database features hundreds of titles covering Art, Architecture, Design, History, Philosophy, Music, Literature, Theatre and Cultural Studies.
Arts Premium Collection This link opens in a new window
The Arts Premium Collection encompasses cross-searchable databases with thousands of journal titles, ensuring deep searches of extensive collections in specialist subject areas not covered in more general databases. Subject areas include: Art, Design, Architecture, Humanities, Film/Screen Studies, Music, Performing Arts, and more. With international coverage, and access to the definitive indexes in these fields, the Arts Premium Collection supports academic inquiry and is a rich source for comprehensive arts literature reviews.

Over 130,000 annotated references from more than 500 design and craft journals and newspapers published since 1973. Includes data on over 50,000 designers, craftspeople, studios, workshops, firms etc.
DETAIL This link opens in a new window
Online version of DETAIL journal, with each issue devoted to a specific constructional theme. Includes analysis and plan drawings of selected projects. DETAIL Inspiration is an image and reference database which supports architects in their search for construction solutions.
El Croquis Digital Library This link opens in a new window
El Croquis is a key architecture journal that showcases the work of leading architects and their practices from all over the world. Featuring one practice per issue, it is one of the most important resources for finding out about the designs and works of the most outstanding international architects.
