What are MLC 1:1 tutorials?

A 1 hour session with one of our trained lecturers to help with your math and statistics queries. As our appointments are limited we advise that you attend the drop-ins first prior to booking a 1:1 appointment.

Who can book a 1:1 tutorials?

All DMU students - undergraduate or postgraduate from any course.

What support is offered during a statistics tutorial?

We can provide advice to help you:

  • Consider the purpose of statistics
  • Design a questionnaire
  • Use statistical software packages e.g. Excel, SPSS, Minitab
  • Explore data and carry out descriptive statistics
  • Choose the right statistical test and analyse data
  • Interpret data and understand what your results mean

Is there anything a tutorial cannot cover?

We are not able to:

  • Do the analysis
  • Advise on the subject of the project
  • Provide technical software support or advice
  • Proofread

Please note the responsibility of your statistics project and analysis is yours, be prepared to make the decisions and value judgement for the work.

What should I bring to my tutorial?

Any course material, any attempted answers and a calculator. For statistics tutorials please bring your data in an electric form.

How do I book a tutorial?

Click here to visit the MLC booking page or click on the blue button on the right to book your appointment. If none of the times are suitable please email us with your query: mlc@dmu.ac.uk. It is important that you arrive promptly for your tutorial. If you are unable to make it or are running late, you should make us aware as soon as possible.
