To study GCSE Maths from October 2018 students are required to complete an assessment of their number skills. A place on the course depends on the result of this assessment. If you do not pass, you will be offered a place to study Functional Skills to build up your skills first.
The course is open to Home students who do not already have a GCSE at C grade/Level 4 or above.
Our Functional Skills qualifications in Mathematics will enable students to apply numeracy and practical mathematical skills in both their personal and professional lives. Functional Skills equips students with the fundamental applied skills needed to succeed in all aspects of life, work and other learning. Upon completion the student is expected to be able to use numbers confidently and develop the ability to apply these skills to a variety of situations.
The Functional Skills classes will be held at Freemen's Park Campus at Leicester College on Wednesday evenings 6.00-8.30pm during semester times. The classes will be a mixed Level 1 and Level 2 to cater for as many as possible, and it will be possible for someone to achieve both levels in the year, if they make good progress. Progression to GCSE the following year would still depend on them passing the pre-GCSE assessment.
